Eta Sigma Gamma

Eta Sigma Gamma is the Health Education/Promotion Honor Society. The pillars of the honorary are: Service, Teaching, Advocacy, and Research (STAR). If you join ESG you gain experience in the health education and promotion field, you engage in health education/ promotional activity, you participate in campus and community service and you interact with fellow health educators.

To to be eligible to join ESG you must meet the following criteria:

  • Involvement in Hands in Health

  • Undergraduate student in health education or promotion -OR-

  • MA, MPH, or PhD student in Health Science Department

  • Undergrad GPA: 2.7 overall; 3.0 in major

  • Graduate GPA: 3.2 overall

  • Earn 15 points each semester for two consecutive semesters in the following categories: 

  1.  STAR Activities:                                                                                                   1A)  a minimum of 6 points per semester. Of these, a minimum of 3 must be earned in HIH/ESG sponsored events (e.g., general body meetings, committee meetings, Hands in Health service events, etc.)           1B) Students may earn the remaining points through outside events (e.g., UA's Project Health, American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, Al's Pals, trash pick-up, etc.)                                                                                             1C) Professional development activities: a minimum of 3 points per semester (e.g., journal club meetings, presentations, webinars, etc)         1D) Fundraising for HIH/ESG: A minimum of 1 point per semester  

  • Demonstrate a spirit of service

  • Actively participate in Hands in Health activities, meetings and events

  • Exemplify character through personal integrity and professional attitude

  • Document points in approved chapter forms

  • Be up-to-date on local dues and pay national dues.
